Court Nullifies Kwankwaso’s Suspension from NNPP, Restrains Aggrieved Members

In a significant legal development, Justice Usman Mallam Na’Abba of the Kano State High Court has nullified the suspension of the former governor of Kano State, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The court, in its ruling on a suit marked K/M1175/2023, also issued an injunction restraining certain aggrieved members of the party from assuming or acting in the capacity of National Officers of the NNPP.

Justice Na’Abba, in delivering the ruling, issued an order of interim injunction, preventing the respondents, their agents, cronies, or anyone acting on their behalf, from presenting themselves as national officers, leaders, or members of the NNPP. This injunction will remain in force pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

Additionally, the court granted an interim injunction setting aside the purported suspension of Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a member of the NNPP. It further restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the alleged suspension until the motion on notice is heard and determined.

Respondents in the case include Chief Dr. Bontrace O. Aniebonam, Dr. Gilbert Agbo Major, Barr. Tony Christopher Obioha, Comrade Oginni Olaposi, Hajia Rexia Zanlaga, Mark Usman, Umar Jubril, Alhaji Adebayo Wasiu, Alhaji Taxudeen Adebayo, Alhay Mamoh Garuba, Abourasaq Abdulsalam, Barr. Abiola Henry Olarotimi, Engr. Babayo Aboullahi Mohammed, Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya, Chinonso Adiofu, Hon. Prince Sunday Chukwuemeka, Barr. Jonathan Chineme Ibeogu, and INEC.

A Form 48, dated February 14, has been filed to notify the respondents about the consequences of disobedience to the court order. The court ordered substituted service of the processes on the respondents and adjourned further proceedings in the matter until March 11. This legal development marks a significant turn of events in the internal dynamics of the NNPP, with the court intervening to address the suspension and related matters involving Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso.
